Intern – Landscape Architecture

Description

Ironwood Design Group LLC is seeking a highly motivated Landscape Architecture Intern to join our team for the summer. This position provides hands-on experience within a collaborative studio environment and exposure to the full lifecycle of professional landscape architecture projects.

As an Intern, you will support Project Managers, Project Designers, and Designers in the development of conceptual design, technical documentation, and production deliverables. You will contribute meaningfully to active projects while learning Ironwood’s standards, systems, and core design principles: form, experience, visualization, and movement.

This role emphasizes accountability, technical growth, collaboration, and alignment with Ironwood’s culture of ownership and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Production Support

  • Assist in the preparation of planning and site design consistent with Ironwood’s standards.
  • Support conceptual development, precedent research, and graphic visualization.
  • Contribute to the preparation of contract documents, including plans, details, sections, elevations, and schedules.
  • Assist in preparing amendments, addenda, and design clarifications.
  • Perform site analysis, documentation of existing conditions, and research tasks as assigned.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite to support production and presentation materials.
 

Studio Collaboration

  • Work within an assigned project team under the guidance of a Project Manager and Designer.
  • Seek clarification when needed and take initiative in completing assigned tasks.
  • Participate in internal reviews and design discussions.
  • Support team members during busy deadlines, reflecting Ironwood’s “Working as One Studio” culture.
 

Quality & Professional Development

  • Learn and operate within Ironwood’s documentation standards and QA/QC processes.
  • Review your work before submission to improve accuracy and reduce rework.
  • Develop increasing technical proficiency, design judgment, and professional communication skills.
  • Engage in mentorship and feedback conversations as part of Ironwood’s culture of shared growth and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate Landscape Architecture program.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Strong graphic communication and conceptual design skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Collaborative, professional, and proactive work ethic.
