Description

Project Managers at Ironwood Design Group lead complex projects from kickoff through completion, ensuring that design excellence, client service, and project profitability are consistently achieved. PMs serve as the primary point of contact for clients and are accountable for project execution, including planning, documentation, financial performance, and team coordination.

This role is suited for professionals with experience delivering commercial, mixed-use, and master-planned developments, including urban living environments and on-structure landscapes. Project Managers guide design direction, manage multi-disciplinary coordination, and ensure constructable, high-performing environments aligned with client goals and Ironwood’s standards.

PMs model Ironwood’s culture, mentor junior staff, and contribute to a collaborative studio environment. They are expected to maintain billable utilization and may actively contribute to project design, particularly during master planning and concept phases. PMs report to the Studio Director and escalate to Principals as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership

  • Lead project kickoff meetings to ensure a smooth transition from sales to production.
  • Review client goals, development constraints, and market positioning to fully understand project objectives.
  • Plan and manage all phases of projects, from concept through construction, ensuring quality, clarity, and alignment with Ironwood standards.
  • Manage complex coordination with architects, civil engineers, planners, developers, and municipal agencies.
  • Lead meetings, document decisions, and maintain clear project communication.

Client & Consultant Coordination

  • Serve as the day-to-day client liaison, ensuring timely communication and proactive problem-solving.
  • Build trusted relationships with developers, design teams, and consultants.
  • Align design and implementation with development goals, budgets, and regulatory requirements.

Design Leadership & Quality Oversight

  • Guide design direction during master planning, entitlement support, and concept design.
  • Lead landscape strategies for mixed-use developments, residential communities, urban infill projects, and structured environments.
  • Ensure design output reflects creativity, technical rigor, sustainability, and constructability.
  • Maintain responsibility for QA/QC across all deliverables.

Technical & Construction Coordination

  • Oversee preparation of construction documents, detailing, and specifications.
  • Ensure clear communication of design intent through RFIs, submittals, and clarifications.
  • Lead construction observation efforts and coordinate field responses to maintain design quality.
  • Support resolution of site challenges and contractor coordination.

Financial & Schedule Management

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and scopes to ensure profitability and on-time delivery.
  • Monitor scope alignment and prepare additional service requests when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate forecasting through project management tools.
  • Track team progress to ensure efficiency and adherence to budgeted hours.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Direct and mentor Project Designers and Designers through clear guidance and constructive feedback.
  • Foster collaboration and accountability within the team.
  • Serve as the first level of decision-making before escalating issues.

Professional Practice & Culture

  • Model Ironwood’s core values: ownership mentality, shared success, mentorship, continuous improvement, and accountability.
  • Support licensure and professional engagement (ASLA, ULI, USGBC, etc.).
  • Share emerging best practices, technologies, and industry knowledge.

Marketing & Business Development Support

  • Assist with proposals, graphics, and presentations.
  • Represent Ironwood professionally in client meetings, industry events, and public forums.
