Ironwood Design Group brings over 30 years of experience in landscape architecture and master planning. We’re a small, dedicated team of landscape architects and designers, working together closely to create beautiful, welcoming landscapes for our clients. Our team members carefully shepherd each project from beginning to end, transforming your vision into reality. We use digital renderings, hand-drawn designs, aerial imaging, and 3D modeling to deliver design intent, and we hand select every plant, material, and finish to ensure continuity of style.

Ironwood is helmed by partners Erik D. Jarkins and Sam Sampson, who each bring unique professional expertise to the team. Erik, as Director of Design & Landscape Architecture, is dedicated to creating innovative, theme-based landscape designs, while Sam leads the team as Director of Business Operations, in charge of master planning, construction management, and business development.

After years of working collaboratively on projects, Erik and Sam partnered in 2014 to launch Ironwood Design Group. Since then, Ironwood has created unique, detail-rich designs for hundreds of clients, ranging from sweeping commercial parks to elegant private estates. From micro-amenity spaces less than an acre in size to spacious multi-use residential communities on over 14,000 acres, the Ironwood team approaches each project with keen attention to detail and a grand vision harmonizing nature, people, and design.

As an intimate design team, Ironwood often enters the bidding process with much larger competitors. But from the beginning, Erik’s innovative artistry and Sam’s meticulous knowledge of the natural world gave Ironwood an edge that prospective clients noticed. With a talent for cultivating beautiful results within any budget – and a flair for the truly unforgettable – Ironwood’s designs quickly gained attention amidst other landscape architecture firms. In 2015, when the renowned development company Ashton Woods announced that it was soliciting bids for a sweeping new community in Sandy Springs, Ironwood stepped up to the challenge with an elegant, European garden-inspired design. When they learned they’d clinched the project, Sam and Erik knew Ironwood Design Group had landed on the map.

Today, the Ironwood team shares sunny office space in Roswell, Georgia, where they collaborate on commercial and residential projects throughout the Southeast region. You’ll often find them poring over a rendering together, spitballing ideas to transform a neglected amenity, or pulling down a book on ancient Roman gardens to find just the right inspiration for a project. But whatever the team is tackling, you can be sure they’re bringing bold ideas, meticulous details, handcrafted design, and shared love for the work they do together.

We’re professionally affiliated with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Our team members have a multitude of professional certifications and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation.
